Well, that is a past now. Thanks to Fantasy Sports, to be more specific, Fantasy Cricket!
This pastime has genuinely worked as a lifesaver for many. Well, for starters, the champ has already earned over ₹14 Lakh playing Fantasy Cricket and Fantasy Football on HalaPlay.
Read on to know his responses to the questions put in by our team basis the journey he has had on the platform till now.
Here we go!
Tell us a little bit about yourself. Where you grew up, went to school, what you did before playing Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS).
I’m Pralay Kumar Sen, known by the name Pks1122 on HalaPlay. I finished B.Tech in Electrical Engineering in the year 2015, from WBUT Kolkata. Currently, I’m working as an Assistant Engineer in a private firm in my hometown Kharagpur.
When did you start playing on HalaPlay and what was your introduction to it?
I have been playing on Halaplay since April 2017. Before that I used to play Fantasy Sports on other platforms but they never really suited me and also Halaplay is more fruitful I believe.
Tell us a bit about your Daily Fantasy journey. The struggles you had and successes.
I started my journey with a very limited budget of ₹100-200 per match. This was the case before the grand league win and after that I increased my budget significantly depending on the type of match and the conditions. And currently, my budget is constant since the time of IPL 2018.
Which amongst Fantasy Cricket and Fantasy Football do you prefer playing and why?
I’m deeply passionate about the game Cricket, have been playing it since childhood days and so Fantasy Cricket comes at the very top in the list. Also because I win it much more than Fantasy Football.
If you keep the comparison aside, frankly speaking I prefer playing both actually because the profit received from Fantasy Football is more than that attained from Fantasy Cricket. Since I don’t watch football, I have to do lots of research and analysis of players’ history. One of my seniors in office also guides me about the game and gives me some really helpful tips (needed to play the game) and this is one big reason that I’ve been so successful in Fantasy Football.
While choosing your fantasy team what is your criteria for choosing players (Current form, past records etc.)?
Mostly, I go with the consistency of players and ground conditions. Then, I try to predict match score and accordingly draft my best team combination, for small leagues. For big fantasy leagues, I also consider the past records of players.
What kind of leagues are your favourite on HalaPlay?
I generally (most of the cases, not always) prefer leagues of 3 to 5 players. But Monster (of ₹350 and ₹3999) have proved to be the best leagues for me as I got maximum profits from them.
How has your experience been with the Season Passes and what is it that you like the most about them?
It’s the most useful part of HalaPlay and the best experience (utility) one can ever get from similar benefits.
I simply love it and don’t miss out on Season Passes in any of the big tournaments. Simply the best feature a Fantasy Sports platform can ever have.
Which was your best day on HalaPlay and what do you remember about it?
It was 27th May in IPL 2018 Final match when I got a profit of around ₹46,000 (first time from a single match) wherein I won several big leagues.
How much does player position affect your drafting strategy (ST/MID/DEF)?
Player position is the most vital thing to consider in Fantasy Football. In the initial stages, I started playing with more Strikers and Midfielders and less Defenders. Once I got the knack of the scoring criteria of Halaplay, that is when I changed the tactic a bit and chose to with more Defenders because they have more chances of maintaining a clean sheet. This strategy actually proved to be very beneficial and gave me more success compared to the first one.
What is your strategy while choosing a captain for Fantasy Cricket & Fantasy Football?
In Cricket, I choose a player with the best current form and for Football, I go with a Defender (most of the time).
Do you follow any pages / channels / sites for drafting the best combination?
I follow official sites majorly and I avoid depending on information provided by other users. I have also created my own Halaplay Fantasy Telegram channel for sharing ideas and information dissemination.
Seeing that earning through DFS takes a lot of time and dedication, how do you balance your work life with playing DFS?
I’m pursuing a full time job because of which it gets difficult (at times) to contribute as much as needed to succeed in the world of Fantasy Sports with a large pool of determined players with significant expertise in both Fantasy Cricket and Fantasy Football. There are times when I’ve to sacrifice with my sleeping time to match up.
If you had one piece of advice to offer to a player new to DFS in terms of strategy, what would it be and why?
Begin your journey and educate yourself with free leagues first. Once you are fully aware of the platform, scoring criteria, competition and rules of the game, that is when you should start investing large amounts.
Where do you see your self down the road in regards to DFS? Do you want there to be a long-term thing for you? What things do you hope to accomplish as a result of DFS success?
This is something that has given me a LOT in return. I’ve received considerable profit playing Fantasy Sports, so I would definitely want to continue and keep playing as much as I can. I’ve garnered enough experience playing on multiple Fantasy Sports sites. Sometimes, I share my team in my different groups so that others can also utilise and benefit from the knowledge I have gathered and make profit. I also share some really helpful tips and investment guidelines which if incorporated, will definitely help them in making good profit over time.
