Melbourne Renegades pipped their city rivals Melbourne Stars to win the BBL 08 title, the first-ever in the club’s history. The Kane Richardson-led bowling attack defended a moderate total of 145 in the final.
High-flying Batsmen
The Renegades coach Michael Klinger would be delighted that three of his experienced batsmen hit top form ahead of the new season. Shaun Marsh, Tom Cooper, and Marcus Harris combined scored close to 1500 runs in the ongoing Sheffield Shield season for their respective teams.
Skipper Aaron Finch had a decent outing against Sri Lanka and Pakistan in T20Is, scoring two half-centuries at home.
Dan The ‘BBL Man’
What separates a champion from others is the ability to perform, no matter how dire the circumstances are. The Renegades all-rounder Daniel Christian is a classic example. The 36-year-old scored a match-winning 31 off 14 balls in the semi-final and produced an all-round performance – 38* & 2/33 – in the final.
Klinger will be pinning hopes on fast bowler Kane Richardson, who averaged 57 fantasy points per match in the last BBL. He was also the top wicket-taker in the league.
T20 specialist Harry Gurney is likely to be available for the entire BBL 09, while Mohammad Nabi will join the squad in the second half of the season. The all-rounder will replace pacer Richard Gleeson, who played in 2019 T20 Vitality Blast and Abu Dhabi T10.
