Please do describe yourself to our readers. Where you grew up, what are you pursuing currently and what you did before playing Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS)?
I am Asif Mostafa from Chakdaha in the district Nadia in West Bengal. I completed my graduation from Chakdaha College and currently I’m self employed.
How did you come across HalaPlay and when did you start playing on it?
I have been playing on HalaPlay for over 14 months now. In the initial days it was a casual stint but then 6 months into it I started taking it very seriously. Before this I used to play on other platforms.
I was introduced to HalaPlay by some online advertisement that looked quite compelling and intriguing.
How has your DFS journey been till now? Tell us about few of your struggles and successes.
There was a lot to know and figure out when I started playing Fantasy Sports, the regular and much needed research used to take significant time from my daily schedule. It appeared as a task in the early days but now it has become an important part of my life and is an integral part of my daily routine.
What kind of preparation and research goes behind drafting the teams?
Generally I start my research 1 hour prior to the match that I play to participate in. The usual sources for gathering the data and past records for drafting the teams are Cricbuzz and CricInfo.
How do you pick the players? What factors do you generally consider?
Apart from the very important factors like past records and current form there are some really crucial factors that one can’t overlook, like pitch repot, ground history, toss, and weather report.
What is it that you generally look for in a player to be the Captain of your team (for Fantasy Cricket & Fantasy Football)?
For Fantasy Cricket, it definitely depends on the format we are playing in . For Test cricket, I prefer a spinner batsman who has the capability to give me a lot of points by both ball and bat. In ODIs, number 3 or 4 batsman or maybe an all rounder (as he can produce points with both bat and ball). In T20 cricket, I go for an all rounder or a strike bowler.
For Fantasy Football, a central defender is my only preference unless I’m playing a match with either Messi or Ronaldo.
Which was your best day on HalaPlay? What is it that keeps reminding you about it?
This was some 2-3 months back in a Pakistan Vs New Zealand ODI match when I won around ₹90,000 in a single day. I have won ₹50,000 many a times but couldn’t cross that bar for quite sometime and that’s why the feeling was very elating.
Do you also play and compete with your friends? If yes, how is that experience different from playing with the strangers?
Yes, I do play with my friends at times. I am the one who introduced them to HalaPlay. It is actually quite exciting to play with friends.
Do you have any preferred leagues (the ones you play the most) on HalaPlay?
In Fantasy Cricket, I prefer the Monster league with entry fee ₹199 and for Fantasy Football, I play almost all the big leagues.
What advice would you offer to a player new to DFS in terms of strategy?
First and foremost thing should be to understand the format of the game and rules of the platform. Once that is clear, then devise your investment strategy as per your objective (whether you want to win big or at a steady pace). Failure is bound to happen initially but don’t give up. Patience is the key of success.
Where do you see yourself down the road in regards to DFS? Do you want there to be a long-term thing for you?
Yes definitely it is going to be a long-term thing as it’s the main source of income for me. I am very happy and satisfied with the rewards and really appreciate to be a part of the Fantasy Sports world.
