Schalke vs Augsburg
Schalke’s winless run extended to eight games after the 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Dortmund. Three points against Augsburg would take them to sixth in the table.
Augsburg would be desperate for points as they would be keen to distance themselves from the relegation zone. They, too, are on an winless streak and have only won two games away from home this season.
Previous Meeting (2019-20 German League)
03.11.2019: Augsburg 2-3 Schalke
The Key Players
Schalke
Weston McKennie (MID): Though Dortmund overpowered Schalke, the Schalke central midfielder stood tall. He made five interceptions, won four tackles, and cleared the ball away from danger thrice.
Amine Harit (MID): Harit scored the winner when both sides met the last time in German League. The 22-year-old have found the net six times this season.
Salif Sané (DEF): Sané made his first appearance after a six-month injury lay-off. Though things didn’t go according to plan against Dortmund, a fully-fit Sané, who has scored two goals this season, could stabilise the Schalke backline.
Bastian Oczipka (DEF): Oczipka has played in every German League match in the ongoing season. He had an 80% passing accuracy against Dortmund and grabbed four assists in the 2019-20 season so far.
Augsburg
Tin Jedvaj (DEF): Despite scoring the equaliser against Wolfsburg, Jedvaj would have been disappointed to concede a goal in the injury time. The centre-back, who is on loan from Leverkusen, has been impressive for Augsburg.
Florian Niederlechner (FWD): Niederlechner began 2020 on a high as he scored twice against Dortmund and grabbed a goal in the home win against Bremen. But he hasn’t scored or assisted a goal in the last six matches, and Schalke fans would be hoping that the 29-year-old will rediscover his form soon.
Daniel Baier (MID): Baier put up a strong defensive performance against Wolfsburg. He made four interceptions, won three tackles and two clearances.
Philipp Max (DEF): Max whipped in few dangerous balls into Wolfsburg box, and it was his free-kick that led to Augsburg’s goal.
