Fantasy sports is one of the most popular online games in India now. The fans of the gentleman’s game & the beautiful game are putting their skills to the test in fantasy cricket and fantasy football on HalaPlay. What motivates the fantasy sports enthusiasts? Is it the passion for sports, or the big winnings up for grabs?
Abhash Singh, who has won over ₹5 lakhs on HalaPlay by playing Monster Leagues only, explains the reasons why he got hooked on fantasy sports.
Hi! Tell us a little about yourself – where you grew up, and what else do you do apart from playing Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS)?
Hi, my name is Abhash Singh (better known as Dreamteam7 on HalaPlay), and I am a BTech student, hailing from Uttar Pradesh.
You made all your winnings from Monster Leagues. What is the reason behind preferring Monster Leagues?
I am not a huge fan of small leagues. I enjoy playing Monster Leagues because of the big winnings.
As you know, the competition is very high in fantasy cricket, so what are your strategies while making the team?
I didn’t learn to pick the team overnight, but from my experience. In the beginning, I didn’t have much knowledge while picking my playing 11. I started to realise the importance of analysing a player’s recent performances, the teams, and even the pitch. I keep all these things in my mind while making the team.
How different are these strategies while making 10-15 teams?
I consider factors like who is the stronger and the weaker team, will it be a low-scoring or high-scoring match, and who will be batting first, etc. If Australia is playing against Ireland, Ireland is likely to lose all their wickets, so accordingly, I pick the players.
If you don’t win for two or three days straight, how do you find the motivation to keep playing?
It’s all about the interest. If you are interested in something, motivation comes automatically. It’s the interest and passion that motivates me to play fantasy cricket. If you fail and give up, it means you are not interested in it.
Which was your most memorable match or a day on HalaPlay?
I finished second in one of the Chennai Super Kings-Mumbai Indians matches in the 2019 IPL season. I had no hopes of winning but finished second. There were too many great players in both teams, and it was hard to pick the playing 11. I was shocked and surprised after the match. It’s a moment that I will never forget.
What have you done with your HalaPlay winnings?
I have purchased a phone for myself and bought gifts for my family.
Is there something on your wishlist?
I want to save my HalaPlay winnings so I could buy anything I want in the future.
Any advice for new fantasy players?
If you fail to win a few matches, don’t get discouraged, take it as a learning experience. Also, analysing the mistakes would help improve your performance.
Best wishes, Abhash Singh, and keep playing on HalaPlay.
