Success doesn’t come overnight. It takes years of hard work and persistence to be good at something. Those who tasted success be it athletes, entrepreneurs, artists or filmmakers, had one thing in common – an undying love for things they pursued.
“You have got to be madly in love with cricket. Before you lay a foundation on the cricket field, there should be a solid foundation in your heart, and you start building on that,” said Sachin Tendulkar when asked the secret behind his close to two decades of success on the field.
Meet Adarsh Kumar, a sports enthusiast who plays Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) to fall more in love with sports. Read his journey into becoming a successful DFS player on HalaPlay with winnings of over ₹13 Lakh playing Fantasy Cricket and Fantasy Football.
Tell us a little bit about yourself – where you grew up, and what else you do apart from playing DFS?
My name is Adarsh Kumar, better known as faaddenge11 on HalaPlay. I hail from a small district called Siwan in Bihar. I completed my graduation from Kolkata and now working in an IT company in Pune.
When did you start playing on HalaPlay? And how did you come to know about it?
My HalaPlay journey started two years ago. I came to know about the platform through a social networking website and thought I would give it a try. In the early days, the size of leagues and winnings were small. But I kept playing, and within a few months, I saw a steady rise in the number of players, leagues, and winnings.
What kind of research goes behind picking the players in your team?
As I am working in an MNC, I hardly get time to research on players and teams. But I am a big sports enthusiast, and I follow every match, even when I am not playing DFS. The knowledge helps me while creating the team.
I prefer playing football as most of the matches happen during late night and, thankfully, it doesn’t clash with my working hours. But when I get free time in the office, I play fantasy cricket.
What is your strategy while picking a captain for your team?
In football, I prefer defenders as the HalaPlay scoring system helps defenders get more points. A centre-back is my ideal choice for captain, and if one of the opponents is weak, I pick a Left-back or a Right-back as my captain.
My captaincy choice in fantasy cricket depends on the format of the game. If it’s a T20 I prefer an opening batsman, for ODIs it’s all-rounders and bowlers are my preference in Tests. I stick with these criteria and never experiment with the captaincy choice.
Which was your best day on HalaPlay, and what do you remember about it?
I don’t think I had that ‘Big Day’ at HalaPlay, but on more than ten occasions I had won around ₹15,000-₹20,000.
But what I most remember is my first decent win of ₹2500 in Barcelona-Sevilla match in 2017. That was the day when I got into a relationship with HalaPlay, and it is growing ever since that.
Our players have purchased cars, cameras, phones with the money they have won. If you don’t mind, can you share what did you do with the winnings from HalaPlay?
The winnings from the platform helped me to stabilise my family conditions. I was able to pay my sister’s college fees and to buy must-have things in today’s automated world.
Can you name some of your favourite Leagues on HalaPlay?
My favourite leagues in fantasy football are the Monster leagues of entry fee ₹99 and ₹25/20. Also, I like the Last Man Standing league and Rumble to help me manage my worst day. While in cricket, I only play the Monster leagues.
Most of our DFS players use HalaPlay app. Can you share your experience playing on the app?
I enjoy playing on the HalaPlay app. The interface is user-friendly, and a lot of other things have improved in the recent months.
As winning on DFS takes a lot of time and dedication, how do you balance your work life playing DFS?
Managing everything does take a toll on me. But what’s success without the extra effort.
What advice do you have for new DFS players?
Have patience, invest wisely, stick to the basics, use your knowledge of the game, and sometimes intuition helps. There are no shortcuts to winning, and everyone is equal on DFS platforms.
Do you want the DFS to be a long-term thing for you?
DFS is a long-term thing for me. More than the winnings, playing DFS increased my love for sports, and it’s exciting watching the game with your team. And for a sports freak like me, I couldn’t have asked for more.
