Patience is a key element for being successful in anything that you pursue sincerely in life. Good things come to those who wait. Success doesn’t come overnight for most people. It requires a lot of learning, hard work and experience to reach a certain life goal. Not just for professional life, you need patience to succeed in the competitive world of Fantasy Cricket as well. We’ve seen players getting restless right in the very beginning of their journey in Fantasy Sports which somewhere backfires the overall strategy and leads to dissatisfaction.
Today, we’ll introduce you to someone who learnt his lesson at the very start of his stint in Fantasy Cricket. He has been an avid player of Fantasy Sports on HalaPlay for over an year now, having won over ₹6 Lakh already. We tried to capture some of his best moments and gather some helpful insights from his rich experience in the game.Read out the article to know more about his journey on the platform and the learnings gained from the game till now.
Tell us a little bit about yourself. Where you grew up, went to school, what you did before Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS)?
Hi, I’m Merin Kumar, known by the name Dragon_Blasters on HalaPlay. I finished my schooling in Erode, a city in Tamil Nadu. Later completed my MBBS from Pondicherry and currently preparing for NEET PG entrance.
When did you start playing on HalaPlay and how were you introduced to it?
One of my friend referred HalaPlay to me during IPL 2017 and that’s when I started playing on the platform. It’s been a great journey since then.
I liked the look and feel of the website and found the platform quite user friendly and that kept me glued with it.
Tell us a bit about your Daily Fantasy journey. The struggles you had and successes.
The very first league I joined was Free and I won ₹100 which motivated to continue playing on HalaPlay. After that it’s mostly like if I invest good amount of time and research properly for the upcoming game then I’ve been on the winning side whichever league I am a part of. If I try taking it casually then certainly the invested money goes down the drain.
What is the criteria for choosing players (Current form, past records etc.)?
I believe in past records, so I generally go through the past records of each and every player and along with it also consider the recent forms and the conditions which the players are exposed to in the upcoming match.
What is your strategy while choosing a captain for the team?
In limited overs matches, I pick one of the top 3 batsmen as the captain unless both the teams playing don’t have any world class all rounder. For Test Cricket, I mostly prefer a number 4 batsman and if it’s a bowler friendly pitch, then a world class bowler as the captain.
Which leagues are your favourite on HalaPlay?
In the initial days, my favourite leagues used to be Double Up & 10 member league with Top 5 equal winners which I used to create. Now 3 players 1 champion is my favourite.
Which was your best day on HalaPlay and what do you remember about it?
This happened on a day of a NZ vs WI Women’s game when I rarely spent 5 minutes to select my team and entered all the ₹25, 50, 350, 999, 1999 big leagues. Since I was taking it very casually so didn’t really follow the game and when I woke up in the morning I was shocked (and surprised) to see ₹25,000 in my winnings wallet. I had topped in all the big leagues by spending ₹3500 in that game. Without a doubt, that has been the best day of my journey in Fantasy Cricket till now.
How has your experience been with the Season Passes and what is it that you like the most about them?
First time I bought season pass for BBL 2018, Good profit I got in that tournament. I like the idea of free entries given on buying a Pass, though it’s tricky to win in small leagues all the time but you can surely gain some significant returns from the big leagues and that’s what I mostly aim for.
The HalaPlay goodies like Jersey and Caps are also very likeable. Overall, I love the package and would recommend everyone to go for it, in the big tournaments (atleast).
How does your strategy change depending on match format (Test, T20, ODI)?
My favourite format in Fantasy Cricket is ODI. Most of my success has come in this format. For limited overs format, I prefer having more batsmen and for Test Cricket I go with maximum fast bowlers.
If you had one piece of advice to offer to a player new to DFS in terms of strategy, what would it be and why?
If you are new to the crazy world of Fantasy Sports then don’t be greedy in your initial days and invest very wisely because it takes some time to get a knack of it and so there might be high chances of losing. Start your journey with leagues like Double up or 50% winning chances leagues like 1/2, 2/4, 5/10.
If you win good amount of money in any particular game, then withdraw 75% of that as soon as possible and invest the remaining 25% in your next set of games.
Don’t act greedy and invest all your winnings from the previous match into the next game, be patient and strategise properly. Never forget ‘Patience is the key to success’.
Where do you see yourself down the road in regards to DFS? Do you want it to be a long-term thing for you?
I have been preparing for PG entrance exam since sometime as mentioned earlier and so have temporarily stopped playing Fantasy Cricket. Very eagerly waiting to resume playing the same on Halaplay from the month of January.
Fantasy Sports has drastically impacted my life for the good and hence it will remain an integral part of my life for a long long time and so I plan to continue playing for as long as possible.
