Tell us a little bit about yourself. Where you grew up, went to school, what you did before Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS)?
I am Mahesh Kanabur (Mahesh_kanabur) from Hubballi, Karnataka. I have completed my MBA in Marketing and now I’m running my own stone crusher business.
When did you start playing on HalaPlay and how were you introduced to it?
I started playing on HalaPlay in January 2018, I found it while searching about Fantasy games.
Soon I realised that it has a uniqueness which is the provision of editing the teams once the playing XI is declared.
Tell us a bit about your Daily Fantasy journey. The struggles you had and successes.
In the beginning, I used to play with small amount because of lack of knowledge in Fantasy Cricket. With time, day by day my team making abilities increased and same applies for my winnings too. Once it got significant enough, I started playing big leagues and could win some good amount there.
What is the criteria for choosing players (Current form, past records etc.)?
I choose players on their current form and try verifying whether my selected batsmen will bat (considerably) or not and same goes for the bowlers (whether they will bowl or not). This is the usual strategy which I try to implement for getting maximum points.
What is your strategy while choosing a captain for the team, for Cricket & Football?
In Cricket, I usually choose an inform all rounder and in Football, I go for a defender who has better chances of getting a clean sheet and some block-n-tackle points.
What kind of football matches you prefer playing the most (International tournaments, Big Club leagues, Domestic leagues) & why?
Mostly I prefer playing Fantasy Cricket. It has always been my first option in Daily Fantasy Sports. Whenever there are no cricket matches only then I choose to play Fantasy Football.
Which leagues are your favourite on HalaPlay?
My favourite are the Head2Head leagues which I play the most. After that I generally go for the Monster leagues with entry fee of ₹999, ₹1999 and ₹3999.
Which was your best day on HalaPlay and what do you remember about it?
It was in an IPL match when I invested around ₹80,000 in H2H and 3 members league. Coincidentally, I got same opponents in all of them and luckily my team had exceeded with just 1 point.
I won around ₹1.5 Lakh in just 1 day and that was an unforgettable event and one of the best moments for me since I started playing Fantasy Cricket.
How has your experience been with the Season Passes and what is it that you like the most about them?
Season Passes are very helpful and thanks to the team for introducing such a unique and helpful feature which is much needed for Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS). They help us save considerable amount of money and I have utilised them to the fullest most of the time.
How does your strategy change depending on match format (Test, T20, ODI)?
In T20 Cricket, I pick opening batsmen and main bowlers more. In ODI format, I prefer middle order batsmen more and in Test Cricket, I choose all rounders and bowlers more comparatively.
If you had one piece of advice to offer to a player new to DFS in terms of strategy, what would it be and why?
While you are starting to play Fantasy Sports, do understand the points system clearly and initially play some matches with small amount. Once you get the desired confidence to compete with the regular players only then invest a big amount.
Where do you see yourself down the road in regards to DFS? Do you want it to be a long-term thing for you?
I have really won some good amount here so I will continue playing in future as well.
Most of my daily expenditures are financed by the earnings received from playing Fantasy Sports and so there is no reason for me to stop it at any point of time. Forever it would (and should) be.
