Fantasy Sports! It surely is a fun pastime for the masses but for the fanatics of the game who play it religiously, it has surely emerged as a blessing. Fantasy Cricket has genuinely impacted the lives of many for the good.
We recently came across a similar story, a touching story of one of our elite users who has been playing on HalaPlay for a long time now. He has won over ₹11 Lakh and supported his family with the earnings received from the platform. We got in touch with him to understand better as to how he was introduced to Fantasy Sports, his understandings of the game and the experience he has had on the platform till now.
Read on to know his interesting responses to some varied topics that we could touch while interviewing him.
Tell us a little bit about yourself. Where you grew up, went to school, what you did before Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS)?
My name is Kishor, play by the name sankhatshobhana on HalaPlay. I am from a small village. My progress is consistent because of the support of my parents. I’m currently doing job, and helped my 3 sisters financially in their education (B. Com) by working hard in current job.
When did you start playing on HalaPlay and how were you introduced to it?
I started playing on HalaPlay during IPL 2018 (majorly in the last 6-7 matches). I was introduced to it from a YouTube video.
Tell us a bit about your Daily Fantasy journey. The struggles you had and successes.
In the beginning, I had no idea how to play Daily Fantasy Sports and how to draft teams, so I started playing blindly due to which lost a lot of money. As it was my first time on such a platform, it took me sometime to get a knack of it.
My first big success was when I won ₹43,000 in the IPL 2018 final match. Fantasy Sports has changed my life drastically, the expenditure of my sister’s marriage was quite high and I had to borrow money from my workplace and few relatives. Because of some grand winnings on HalaPlay, I could pay to all the creditors and finish my debts.
What kind of preparation and research goes behind drafting an ideal team?
I refer scorecards of previous matches, mostly try to cover maximum matches possible.
What is the criteria for choosing players (Current form, past records etc.)?
I tend to draft teams differently compared to other fantasy players. I choose players who haven’t had good performance in the last few matches. Like Shane Watson got out on duck in the IPL 2018 Semi final match so I took him as the captain of my team in the final and he scored a century then.
In almost all of the matches, I go with the same strategy and it applies to the bowlers as well. If a bowler has taken 3 wickets in a match then there high changes that he will not get the same result in the next match. Another example, if an opener has scored 50+ runs in a match then it’s highly likely that he’ll go for less than 10 runs in the next match. This tactic might not work every time (obviously) but it has really worked for me.
What is your strategy while choosing a captain for the team?
For selecting the captain, the mindset is almost similar to the strategy I explained above. I choose a player who is generally not selected by the masses because if (by any chance) he scores maximum points then I’m the clear winner for sure. This method makes me a loser in 1 out of 3 matches but in the other 2 I’m definitely one of the top winners is what I’ve observed for a long time.
Which leagues are your favourite on HalaPlay?
My favourite ones are 3 Players 1 Champion (as they have maximum chances of winning) and Rumble (I put 10 teams in it, if I lose, I lose only ₹100 but if my team wins I get ₹1000).
Which was your best day on HalaPlay and what do you remember about it?
The best days were during Caribbean Premier League, in the starting 5 to 7 matches. I won continuously and my bank balance went from ₹5,000 to ₹4,00,000 in that duration.
Seeing that earning through DFS takes a lot of time and dedication, how do you balance your work life with playing DFS?
I generally play night matches and not day matches. Daytime is allocated to the job and the nights for Fantasy Cricket. I usually sleep after drafting the teams and then check the results in morning.
If you had one piece of advice to offer to a player new to DFS in terms of strategy, what would it be and why?
For new players, I’d give few suggestions as follows:
- Play big amount leagues only after having good experience of the rules and scoring system
- If you win a large amount in a match don’t reinvest a huge portion of it right in the next match (with a mindset of increasing it even further), try spending around half of that
- Don’t invest a lot in each and every, invest high in the ones which have known players and other match conditions
- Start Fantasy Football once you have good knowledge of the game Football. I’ve lost a lot in it because I used to draft the team on the basis of my hunch and then relied on the luck which backfired big time.
Where do you see yourself down the road in regards to DFS? Do you want there to be a long-term thing for you?
Yes, DFS has given me a lot, there are many reasons for me to like it and play it for a long term. As said earlier, it has helped me repay to my creditors so there is no way that I’ll do away from it. I play it continuously and that’s like 2-3 matches every week.
