Fantasy Sports! The most talked about and discussed topic in the world of Sports, in the recent times. It has been one of the hottest topics because of the huge impact created in the lives of thousands. Even though it has become a household name nowadays, a lot of us aren’t aware that it has 2 types. Normal Fantasy, where you draft a team that can give you maximum fantasy points and Reverse Fantasy in which the objective is just the opposite i.e. draft a team that would give you minimum fantasy points. We all know a lot about the former but a very few of us are actually aware of the thrill and potential of the later.
One of our elite users who has been playing on HalaPlay for almost an year now simply loves playing Reverse Fantasy. He is a Pro of the format which is also evident from the fact that a large share of his total winning of over ₹84 Lakh has come from Reverse Fantasy leagues. We got in touch with him for a short interview so he can share his experiences and some helpful insights. Hear out his responses to the questions put in by our team.
Tell us a little bit about yourself. Where you grew up, went to school, what you did before Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS)?
I am Gouranga Dinda (Guddu@) from Ahammadpur, a very small village in West Bengal. l am currently doing a part time job.
When did you start playing on HalaPlay and how were you introduced to it?
I started playing Fantasy Cricket on HalaPlay sometime in 2017. I got to know about it from a channel on Youtube, the best thing I liked was the fact that you’re allowed to edit your teams after the toss is done which I believe is the biggest advantage for all the Fantasy Cricket players.
I’ve played Fantasy Sports on other platforms but I prefer playing on HalaPlay over all others. For me, it is simply the best.
Tell us a bit about your Daily Fantasy journey. The struggles you had and successes.
During my part time job I was not satisfied with my income so that is when I began playing Fantasy Cricket. It got started on other platforms but when I was introduced to HalaPlay I left all of them. The profits received from the platform are very pleasing.
What kind of preparation and research goes behind drafting an ideal team?
It is the most important part of any Fantasy Sports game that you play. I research and do the all the necessary homework related to the players past performance, history, pitch, clubs played and players’ position (for football).
What is the criteria for choosing players (Current form, past records etc.)?
This is one of the most tricky things of Fantasy Cricket. My funda is to prefer current form over the past records. The pitch conditions also play a crucial role in deciding the players.
What is your strategy while choosing a captain for the team?
I choose captain in different ways, depending on the format of the game. In ODI, I prefer an all-rounder or a reliable batsman. In Test cricket, it can be anyone (bowler, all-rounder or a batsman) depending on the pitch condition. In T20 cricket, preferably a top order batsman.
Which leagues are your favourite on HalaPlay?
My favourite leagues on HalaPlay are Reverse Fantasy Leagues. These leagues are most interesting and are available only on HalaPlay.
How you got started with Reverse Fantasy and what’s the usual strategy there?
As I’m a regular player on HalaPlay, I discovered Reverse Fantasy leagues in the early days itself. They are the most interesting part of Fantasy Sports is what I believe. The strategy is just the opposite of what we generally apply in Normal Fantasy.
How has your experience been with the Season Passes and what is it that you like the most about them?
For the daily players like me, Bonus and Season Passes are really important. It is like a good tonic for us as we get a chance to save the maximum using them.
Seeing that earning through DFS takes a lot of time and dedication, how do you balance your work life along with playing DFS?
Honestly speaking I have to sacrifice my night sleep or any other daily routine work at times so I can research adequately and do the homework accordingly for the coming matches. But considering the rewards that you get, no doubt that it’s all worth it.
If you had one piece of advice to offer to a player new to DFS in terms of strategy, what would it be and why?
To new players about to start playing Fantasy Sports, I’d suggest them to begin their journey from playing on HalaPlay because of the ease, convenience, benefits, and the most important thing “provision of editing teams after the toss” as it is really important to plan out the strategy after knowing the toss result and it gets much easier to do that once Lineups are declared.
Where do you see yourself down the road in regards to DFS? Do you want there to be a long-term thing for you?
It is the most important part in my life. I take Fantasy Sports (and HalaPlay) very seriously as it has given me some great rewards in the past. I would definitely want to continue playing it for long term.
