There is a very famous quote by Vince Lombardi (who was an American Football player) “Winning isn’t everything, it’s the only thing”. Most of us must have heard of it and maybe keep hearing it on a regular basis in our daily lives BUT the question that arises here is, how many of us are actually able to justify the saying in our day-to-day life? Well, even we are not sure of the numbers here but recently we came across a user on HalaPlay who not just believes in the above quote but has also justified it brilliantly in the journey designed by him on the platform till now.
An avid Fantasy Cricket player, about to finish half a decade playing and competing with the fantasy sports enthusiasts. His incredible confidence has given him great returns and led to a consistent commendable performance, having earned over ₹7 Lakh on the platform. We spoke to him about his journey and experiences, glad to gather some helpful pointers for all those who seek relevant insights to excel in Fantasy Sports.
You’ll surely like it. Here we go!
Tell us a little bit about yourself. Where you grew up, went to school, what you did before Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS)?
I’m H. S. Karthik (known by the name Kiara Advani on HalaPlay), a big fantasy player for almost 5 years now. I’m 22 years old and currently doing CA and managing business.
When did you start playing on HalaPlay and how were you introduced to it?
I started playing on HalaPlay since its inception. I knew about Fantasy Sports before joining the platform and therefore it was easy for me to discover it through my social network.
Tell us a bit about your Daily Fantasy journey. The struggles you had and successes.
Right from the very first day, my journey on halaplay took off like a rocket. In the beginning there were no big amount leagues and so I had to wait for a while to win big. Talking about my performance, I have never lost even a single league on HalaPlay and have earned huge amount.
The funny thing that used to happen was, many people used to tell me that my team is the one being played by HalaPlay only.
What kind of preparation and research goes behind drafting an ideal team for Fantasy Cricket & Football?
Significant time goes behind the research but not much while drafting a team. It hardly takes 30 seconds to a minute for me to draft the best combination.
If you genuinely doing research and following your instinct then you will definitely win big on HalaPlay.
What is the criteria for choosing players (Current form, past records etc.)?
Honestly speaking, I just follow my heart and don’t really consider any past records or current form. It might sound uncommon but it’s true.
What is your strategy while choosing a captain for the team?
Strategy for choosing Captain depends upon the format of the game. For Test Cricket, I go with an all rounder or bowler. For ODI Cricket, I go with a batsman and for T20 games, my preference is either an all rounder or a batsman.
What kind of football matches you prefer playing the most (International tournaments, Big Club leagues, Domestic leagues) & why?
I prefer playing only those tournaments which I’m well aware of and have decent knowledge of the players playing. Simply playing all the matches in football without knowing much is a waste of time and money is what I believe.
Which leagues are your favourite on HalaPlay?
Every league on HalaPlay is my favourite league because when you win every league, it doesn’t matter which one is your favourite.
Which was your best day on HalaPlay and what do you remember about it?
Instead of mentioning any specific day here I’d rather say that there were two months which were simply the best (April & May 2017) because they changed my life completely. It’s a memorable time period because I won huge amount then.
How has your experience been with the Season Passes and what is it that you like the most about them?
My experience with Season Passes has been amazing, especially during IPL 2018. They help you save massively and are pretty good considering the benefits you get from them. I like them more than anything.
Seeing that earning through DFS takes a lot of time and dedication, how do you balance your work life with playing DFS?
DFS takes time and dedication. And the last thing to rely on is Luck. Without investing the required time you cannot earn a single penny. Balancing work with DFS is little difficult because you have to edit your teams after Lineups are announced so it gets hectic at times to manage it along with my business and CA programme.
If you had one piece of advice to offer to a player new to DFS in terms of strategy, what would it be and why?
My advice would be don’t invest your entire budget for a period on a single match because you never know how the conditions will unfold. Invest wisely and smartly and aim to earn big amount gradually.
Where do you see yourself down the road in regards to DFS? Do you want there to be a long-term thing for you? What things do you hope to accomplish as a result of DFS success?
Instead of investing money in the regular things like Mutual Funds, LIC, I prefer investing in DFS as that leads to real excitement and handsome returns. I’d definitely pursue if for long term because I have been already playing Fantasy Cricket for 5 years now.
I have everything in my life of DFS and I simply love it.
