Tell us a little bit about yourself. Where you grew up, went to school, what you did before Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS)?
I am K.Ganga Ambrish (ThalaAmbrish11) from Karaikudi, a town in Tamil Nadu. I finished my Engineering in Electronics & Communication and MBA in Human Resource Management. Currently I am taking care of my own business. I am a Hotelier.
When did you start playing on HalaPlay and what was your introduction to it?
I started playing fantasy cricket on Halaplay around July 2017. I was searching on the internet “how to earn money online” for earning some extra pocket money and that’s when I came across Halaplay.
I believe this is the best user friendly fantasy sports platform I have ever played on.
Tell us a bit about your DFS journey. The struggles you had and successes.
During my college days we used to play it for fun on Cricinfo and Cricketinc without money. I used to top the league most of the times. My DFS journey started playing fantasy cricket on other platforms. For like 2 years I didn’t earn anything. I was just playing H2H leagues for fun without seriousness. That’s when I thought “When you are good at something, don’t do it for free”. Time and efforts I put deserve more than what I got. Then I got introduced to Halaplay. I got my first profit of 5000 in September, 2017.
From then it’s actually a kind of part time business for me, you can call it as a secondary occupation. People think it’s purely luck but believe me it never is. This needs lots of effort, time and sacrifices too at times.
Which amongst Fantasy Cricket and Fantasy Football do you prefer playing and why?
Actually I prefer both. You never no when it’s gonna be your day. So go for it with some homework on that match. I don’t watch football even now. But I got more profit from football than cricket so many times. I do lots of research on the club & players history. That helps for sure.
In cricket, what is your criteria to choose players in your team? (Current form, Past records, Match conditions, Toss, etc)
I don’t go blindly by current form. I prefer the past performances and consistency of the player. Because everyone will go for current form, so you gotta be little different to outperform them (at times it backfires though :P)
How much does match conditions affect your strategy? (pitch, toss, weather)
Toss and weather conditions surely affect though. Rain shortened games are completely different. Bowlers and middle order batsman get less work to do in those and when it comes to toss, team chasing has an advantage these days in shorter formats.
How many teams do you typically enter in Multi entry monsters. If more than one then what is your approach?
I go with all possible team combinations. 10 or 15 or whatsoever. Whether it’s ₹10 league or ₹350 league. I prefer trying all different combinations.
How does your strategy change when you switch from big leagues to smaller leagues like H2H?
H2H is mostly defensive approach. You cannot take risk by leaving the best player.
What is your general strategy while choosing a captain. Does it change depending on the league you are playing?
All Rounders is my first choice. They can get you points in multiple ways.
Then, opening batsman or star player. If against a weak opponent then I prefer strike bowler.
Seeing that earning through DFS takes a lot of time and dedication, how do you balance your work life with playing DFS?
It is the most difficult part. I sacrifice my night sleep for research purpose if there are many matches. And as I am running my own business it has its own pros and cons. I can postpone some other work for the match and at times I can’t even think about toss, who is playing, final minute changes, and all that in my hectic schedule. Although, my family is extremely cooperative and supportive.
Which was your best day on HalaPlay and what do you remember about it?
May 4th, Mumbai Indians vs Kings 11 Punjab. I got a profit of around ₹49000 from that single match through leagues between ₹10-99. Only consolation, being a Mumbai Indians fan that season 😛
Do you follow any pages / channels / sites for drafting the best combination?
I do follow cricbuzz, cricinfo for the previews and team news. I don’t depend on others for my team.
Win or lose I go with my own instinct.
If you had one piece of advice to offer to a player new to DFS in terms of strategy, what would it be and why?
You just can’t win from Game 1 or win each and every game. You will lose, you will suffer loss at times but try to keep things in your control. Don’t invest blindly and lose money in frustration. Wait for your time to come, just play selective leagues and surely you can get back what you lost from a game or two. That’s the beauty of DFS. At times I will be like ₹20000 deficient, one good win will take me to profit from there.
I personally like to track my progress, how much I invest and how much I make, in a month. That helps me keep things in control.
Where do you see yourself down the road in regards to DFS? Do you want there to be a long-term thing for you? What things do you hope to accomplish as a result of DFS success?
Obviously I want to play for long term. It’s like a great pastime and earning opportunity for me. Just want to make decent profits regularly so I can fulfil my small desires in life using the tactically hard-earned money 🙂 🙂
No wonder Fantasy Sports, especially Fantasy Cricket, has become a household name nowadays.
